The Chain

I saw God last night, 

It lived inside my throat

The tears on my cheeks were wiped 

By the words I spoke

It forbid my knees from shame, 

And I stood with revelation

To see fear sleeping in my name, 

It’s home for generations

Fear is an infection, 

So, I've got a need to know 

Who ever thought fear 

Would make a sinner grow?

And patience is a virtue, 

But ain’t gotta wait 

To break the chains 

That I constantly create

And I saw a ghost this morning 

That turned to a purple glimmer 

Saying I am, I am love, 

I am a worthy sinner 

No ego, no shame, 

Will keep me from sacred presence

I dance naked in the mirror, 

To grow closer to the heavens

Shame is an empty stomach, 

So no longer will it feed 

On the chain of thought 

That only lies to me

Patience is a virtue, 

But my thoughts can outrun time

And break the chain 

Before the chain was designed

I saw two or three gathered, 

Throwing stones at the fourth.

The stones pointed at man, 

Said that’s where a river once poured

They said, “To break the chain, 

Conjure the river with your tongue 

Call all that’s ever been to be filled 

With the river you’ve sung”

That sings sweet melodies

Sounds that seem to comfort 

The damaged parts of me

I am petrified 

Cause fear is an infection, 

And the chain is where it thrives

I saw the elder me, 

Poking at my chain 

Trying to tempt me with siren songs 

To see if I will stay the same

But I break the chain,
